Pittu or Puttu is a traditional food of Jaffna Tamil people. It is made through steaming process. It is mostly served as breakfast in the morning time of the day. Nowadays it has become dinner too all over the world in Tamil people homes. The pittu can be strong or soft depending on the maker's processing. Making pittu can be done within30 minutesof time. The pittu can be made in "Kulal" (Bamboo) or in "Neethuppetty" (Bulk in pan).
Pittu looks like and taste alike kuskus but not similar. The food pittu was mentioned in the Thiruvathavuradigal Puranam book's Chemmanachchelviar story where Lord Siva got cane beating for the labor work which he did for the benefit of pittu.
